About the project:

The Upper and Middle Slaughterhouse Stream Restoration includes 5,500 LF mainstem restoration and an additional 1,600 LF on several key tributaries.  Baltimore County EPS contracted WSP USA to evaluate and design the project for MS4 regulation compliance, while also generating key TMDL credits.  EQR was awarded the construction contract.  Upper Reach construction was finalized October 2018, and Middle Reach completion is expected by mid-November 2019.  Project challenges included:

  • Sanitary Sewer lines and Manholes exposed and in danger of failure due to excessive channel and streambank erosion.
  • A failing private culvert requiring repair and stabilization to ensure channel stability.
  • Eroding meanders encroaching on private property.
  • Overhead utility poles in the stream channel.
  • Difficult site access due to narrow access corridors, private property and steep stream valleys.
  • Abbreviated construction timeline due to USE III Classification.
