About the Project:
The Jabez Stream and Bog Restoration Project is a revolutionary project to address severe erosion on a reach of Jabez Tributary III, a small tributary to Jabez Branch in the Severn Run watershed of the Chesapeake Bay. The project fixes a major problem caused by the building of Highway Route 97, restores 2,600 linear feet of incised stream, enhances 2.6 acres of existing freshwater wetlands, and creates an additional 2.7 acres of new wetland habitat, resulting in a massive reduction of sediment and nutrient pollution running into the Severn River. This project is the largest restoration project in Severn Riverkeeper’s 20-year history, and a decade in the making.
Underwood & Associates planned for, designed, and constructed this project and is conducting adaptive management, maintenance, and monitoring. The project is a partnership between the Severn Riverkeeper Program (Lead Project Manager), Maryland Department of Natural Resources (core funder, monitoring), Resilience Authority of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County (project management), and National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (funder).
